Description

The instant #1 New York Times bestseller

"An unforgettable—and Hollywood-bound—new thriller... A mix of Hitchcockian suspense, Agatha Christie plotting, and Greek tragedy."
Entertainment Weekly

The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him....

The story was just ok. I liked it, but it wasn’t a page turner. I feel like it was worth about half of what I paid to read it on iPad. A little disappointing for the price.

This book was by far the best novel I have read all summer (so far). In the beginning, however, the narrator seemed - to me anyway - to be feminine. I thought Theo was a woman at first. Other than that, the story was fantastic, with a shocking ending that I didn’t expect.

I read The Silent Patient in January and I am still thinking about it. I was instantly hooked and could not put the book down. I really loved the short chapters and the way the book read. What a story. I would recommend it to everyone! Alex did a fantastic job, and I can not wait to read more from him.

Total Page turner. Usually books go one of two ways and this one could have gone 276 million different ways.

I read this book because it had so many positive reviews on Goodreads. It was shallow and trashy.

Easy read enjoyed plot development. Main issue is the rushed ending. Didn’t really tie up the book.

Surprised by my dislike after such a hopeful beginning! I did not like the author’s character of Elif at all! I found his description of the only Turkish person in the book deeply offensive. Maybe because of the author’s background? Sounds racist. Also, a ridiculous, convoluted story—just absurd! So sorry I paid for this.

Absolutely loved the book . Dedication and curiosity led me to finishing this book within a day! and I was not disappointed with how everything tied together, from the very beginning I was trying to uncover the mystery behind her motivation but to no avail it didn’t click until the very last second , although the book tied together quite nicely I wish her reasonings would’ve been more complex however I could understand why she did what she did.
